Unit 5: Indigenous Americas, 1000 BCE–1980 CE
Art of the Indigenous Americas emphasizes unity with the natural world, spirituality, animalbased media, and creation of aesthetic objects with a strong functional aspect. This unit introduces distinct cultural developments in Ancient Mesoamerica, the Ancient Central Andes, Ancient America, and Native North America that are reflected in the art and art making of each different culture. The similarities and differences in the cultures, as well as in materials, processes, and techniques, provide students the opportunity to understand how these factors shape and are shaped by art and art making.(AP® Art History CED)
