1.6: Cultural Interactions Between Europeans, Native Americans, and Africans

The final topic in Unit 1 examines the relationships which developed between European explorers, Native Americans, and Africans as they meshed together in the New World. Even though Europeans and Native societies adopted elements of each other’s culture, Europeans continued to encroach on indigenous land and labor, straining relations and fostering debate among Europeans on how these groups should be treated.
