Period 2: 1607–1754
Period Two focuses on the development of colonial life as other European nations joined Spain in their conquests. Starting to focus more on the British colonies and beginning with Jamestown in 1607, this period compares the differing Northern, Middle, and Southern colonies, as well as the interactions that English settlers have with Native Americans. The fully established Transatlantic Trade or Triangular Trade Network is also discussed, adding slavery in the British colonies as a point of discussion. The period ends with a look at colonial society and culture, bringing students straight into the French and Indian War of 1754. Students should be able to compare the different regions of British colonies and their economies, geography, and culture, but also British colonization as a whole when compared to other European nations.
