Unit 9: Globalization, c. 1900 to the present
This last unit centers around the concept of globalization. As the 20th century progressed, the world only became more interconnected, and societies both retained traditional aspects while also changing as part of the modern world. The unit begins with a discussion of technological advances and limitations of the 20th and 21st century, especially in relation to disease and the environment. The unit then introduces globalized economy and culture, culminating with reactions to globalization and the formation of international institutions. Students should focus on continuity and change across time as they advance further into the globalized world.
