The newly founded government began diplomatically dealing with continued Spanish and British presence in North America, while the French Revolution and resulting British-French conflicts created tensions within the U.S. Under the presidencies of Washington and Adams, new precedents were established and the Federalist and Democratic-Repubican political parties officially formed.
