1.5: State Building in Africa

Topic 1.5 is centered on African states from 1200-1450. Including Great Zimbabwe, the Swahili Coast, Ethiopia, the Hausa, and the Mali Empire, this is another region that experiences large cultural exchanges, especially with Dar al-Islam. Also of interest is an introduction to the world’s richest man: Mansa Musa.
